This site was created on July 14, 2004 with the purpose of connecting together the Kovatch relatives.  I became interested in researching my genealogy after I recently inherited my maternal grandmother's family tree book in June 2004.  She has my roots traced back 10 generations and I now have 16 generations thanks to the Internet.

BUT sadly tracing back my relatives on the Kovatch side stops when they entered the U.S. around 1907 and I can't find any record of that.

I am posting everything here that I know to be true and the stories that I can gather from living relatives.  Please read the summary of known facts and check out the details that I've found.  Of particular interest are the 1910 - 1930 census records for Lackawanna County Pennsylvania.  Finally I have a list of resources and links to sites that contain information about the KOVATCH, KOVACS, etc.

If you can help shed some more light on this then please send me an email (alex@kovatch.net).

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

New Progress:

July 14, 2004 :  Site launched.

July 16, 2004 :  I just added a clickable / scrollable family tree with more information and views.

July 17, 2004 :  I have now located information and maps on the town where the Kovatchs (Kovacs) came from.  I just found out today that I'm a Rusyn!!!  No, that doesn't have anything to with the fomer Soviet Union.  Carpatho-Rusyns (aka Rusyns) are a nationality that has no homeland -- there's a good explanation about "who the rusyns?" the carpathorusynsociety.org web site.

July 18, 2004 : I added a map and a description to the town where my grandfather was born (Turycja, Austria) which is now part of the Ukraine.  And many new links to learn more about the Carpatho-Rusyns.
